New Orleans Police Department

The New Orleans Police Department is one of the few functioning local services still intact after Katrina. While most of their equipment and buildings were destroyed, they have improvised by making makeshift command centers until their buildings are renovated and restored or at least usable. The department has been stretched to the breaking point with a marked increase in vandalism, petty theft, homicides, looting, and other crimes. Police Commissioner Harold Crumby has authorized all neighborhoods in the city to form Neighborhood Watch groups to help ease the pressure on the tired, beleagured officers of the department.

In particular, the S.C.I., or Special Crimes Investigation, is taxed to the breaking point. The SCI is New Orleans answer to the supernatural. If it goes bump in the night the S.C.I. is who answers the door. The S.C.I., headed by Detective Prudence Boudreaux, are the only ones in the Department with any knowledge of the supernatural, and they are very good at their job. They also serve as a sort of information hub to members of the White Council and the Paranet. If you need an answer to something odd and can’t find it yourself, the S.C.I. probably knows.
